I recently lost my husband a little over two weeks ago. Being a veteran, we are awaiting a plaque for his grave site.

Wanting something to mark his area, I went to a greenhouse and got him a big beautiful bright pink geranium on a Monday, once his funeral flowers were removed.

That Saturday my daughter and grandchildren came from out-of-state to visit him and place an American flag on his grave.

I was devastated! When we arrived at the cemetery, the geranium was gone. There was nothing on his grave site.

How could someone remove a plant from the cemetery, from a veteran and so close to Memorial Day? Why? Is there no respect for the dead and their families?

Needless to say, my grandchildren were upset and could not understand why this happened.

We went back to the greenhouse, obtained another geranium and my grandchildren also put a plant on Peperi’s grave.

Maybe the person that took the plant had no money and really needed that plant.

I only hope that they never feel the hurt and devastation that we felt.
