I am a landlord in Franklin and Oxford counties. I am a little confused about why laws for businesses do not apply to landlords.

I rented to someone who had great references. They gave me a check for rent and security deposit. The check was bad, but I did not know this until they had moved in.

Despite writing a bad check, the tenets receive protection from the law that does not apply to people who write bad checks to other businesses. It is obviously fraud.

For some reason, my business is not equal to other businesses. The same rules don’t apply. I wonder why my rights are different from other small businesses.

It is time for landlords to unite and push for a new district attorney who will be consistent in every county and town on laws they will and will not prosecute. If landlords broke the law, we would be prosecuted. It is time that we had a DA who will answer questions from attorneys so their clients can understand.

I call on lawyers in these counties to come up to the plate and run in the next election. It is time for change! It is time for a district attorney who is not prejudiced against landlords.
