PARIS – The first-ever Paris Fun Days, with carnival rides and a midway, will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Paris Fire Station on Western Avenue.

The parking lot in front of the station will be transformed by Eastern Amusements into a carnival space, with rides for children and adults, concessions, games and food, said Matt Shepard, the town’s parks and recreation director.

The Parks and Recreation Committee decided to invite Eastern Amusements to come to town as part of its traveling Maine Family Fun Festival shows.

Shepard said the carnival was originally scheduled to be located at the Dennis Rugg Complex on Oxford Street, but it had to be moved because of the lack of water service at the ball field.

Space will be more limited at the Paris Fire Station, and the carnival will not be as large as was hoped, Shepard said. But he said the committee will be looking for a larger site to hold next year’s carnival.

“We planned this on short notice this year, but hopefully next year we’ll be able to have tons more,” he said.

The carnival will open with a preview from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and will operate from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward future projects of the Parks and Recreation Committee, which is working to develop more recreational opportunities and events for residents.
