RUMFORD – Beginning June 10, River Valley Healthy Communities will host a picnic each Thursday at noon in Morency Park on the Island. An accomplished flutist, Boris Popovich, will appear at the June 10 picnic. On June 17, guitarist and vocalist Glenn Gordon will appear, with his two daughters accompanying him. There will be a surprise guest on June 24. Picnickers are advised to bring a bag lunch and a blanket or chair to sit on.

During the last community network meeting, a local teacher, Maureen Goudreau gave a presentation about the development of the park and the building of the gazebo. Goudreau was instrumental in obtaining a grant for the development of the park and gazebo.

Lunch and Learn

RUMFORD – The next business Lunch and Learn Seminar will take place on Wednesday, June 16. This is the last seminar in the first six-month series. The seminar will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the River Valley Business Resource Center on 34 River St.

The cost is $8 and includes lunch. Preregistration is required and may be made by calling Beverly at 207-369-0396 or by e-mailing [email protected] by June 14.

The topic will be “The Voice of the Customer” presented by Mary Dube of the River Valley Growth Council.

She has 14 years of experience in sales, and is involved with various community activities.

This seminar will explain that the voices of the marketplace and customers are all around.

There will be an explanation of various tools and techniques that may be used to help develop growth strategies, innovate new products and optimize existing operations.

Camperships

RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition has secured funding to offer camperships for local children ages 5-12 to attend Black Mountain Day Camp.

A grant from the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust will finance camperships for up to four weeks.

Camperships are available to River Valley children who might not otherwise afford the $60 weekly fee to attend.

The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust supports a number of health and welfare organizations, health projects, special needs, including the blind, deaf and learning disabled, the elderly, children’s hospitals, children’s homes, youth organizations, youth/family services and summer Camperships/summer enrichment programs.
