SALEM – SAD 58 directors recommended that voters pass an $8.85 million spending package to operate schools for 2004-05. The budget was reduced from an initial $9.14 million draft proposed in January.
Eustis voters rejected two articles from the SAD 58 school budget. In a close call, 39 yes to 46 no, Eustis voters dismissed a board recommendation to raise $1.3 million in additional local funds. They also did not authorize the board to borrow $95,000 for new space for the Office of the Superintendent, 33 to 51.
Avon residents in SAD 58 also voted down the borrowing proposal for the new superintendent’s office 25 to 39.
Strong voters approved all measures of the budget except the superintendent’s office as well.
At press time, with votes counted for Avon, Eustis and Strong, all articles on the SAD 58 budget looked to be approved with the exception of the superintendent’s office.
But without results from two of the largest towns in the SAD 58 voting district, Kingfield and Phillips, no final determination could be made. Election results from the two towns were not available at press time.
