SALEM – Voters in SAD 58 passed a proposed $8.5 million school budget Tuesday.

Most of the articles on the budget passed with about a 33 percent margin. Article 6 – proposing that the district raise $1.3 million in additional local funds – passed, but by a narrower margin, as did funding for adult education.

The last item on the ballot asked voters to authorize the Board of Directors to borrow up to $95,000 to build a new office for the superintendent in Salem township. Voters turned down that proposal, 57 percent to 43 percent, with the strongest opposition coming from the towns of Avon, Eustis and Strong. Kingfield and Phillips tallies were much closer, both coming in at 54 percent to 46 percent against.

Article 6 failed to win approval in Eustis, and passed by a narrow margin in Phillips.
