We are truly sorry for the lack of twig and leaf clean up and mowing in five of our 16 cemeteries during the Memorial Day weekend. Our cemeteries in Livermore were to be in respectful condition by 5 p.m. Friday, May 28. This goal was not reached. We expect to have all cemeteries presentable soon.

Three projects are underway at Hillmans Cemetery. Tim Cox is straightening and cleaning stones, the two huge pines and small tree have been removed and so have the stumps. Clarence Gordon removed the front fence last fall, sandblasted it, repainted it and had it back in place for Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to those volunteers who helped in these projects. We appreciate their patience while the projects are underway; we aim to complete these, and other improvements, as soon as possible.

Our request for funds to renovate the active cemeteries in Livermore includes the following needs: tree work which includes trimming and removal of dead trees; new road into the Howard property section at Lakeside Cemetery; lime, weed killer, fertilizer and seed to renovate large areas where weeds have taken over; small metal signs to identify each of the 16 cemeteries; and small signs indicating cemetery care requests from your committee. Last year we spent about $5,000 at Hillmans Cemetery to remove two huge pine trees that were about 200 years old. This year’s request is $10,000 to fund the above described renovations.
