FARMINGTON – There’s Gretchen, Frosty, Hugo, Bam Bam, Ebony, Smidge, Lilo, Sherlock, Belle and 51 more adult cats up for adoption.
The Franklin County Animal Shelter is offering free adoption of the adult cats.
Hugo is a lovable 27-pound cat. Gretchen is a medium length tri-colored cat with black and orange colors.
Frosty lost his ears to frostbite. Bam Bam is medium gray, and Ebony is a black medium length.
There is still an application process, and adoption standards will remain the same, said shelter manager Patty Lovell.
The cats, in a range of colors and sizes, were in their cages Thursday either playing, resting or sleeping.
“We have wonderful cats,” Lovell said.
The animals will be spayed or neutered, she said.
The shelter has received a $50,000 bequest from the estate of Ardy Rausch of Freeman Township.
Some of the money is being invested long-term for the shelter, and some is going to be put in the shelter’s fund for spaying and neutering animals, Lovell said.
People who meet eligibility requirements will be able to have their animals spayed or neutered, Lovell said, through a loan program in which the animal s owner repays the shelter over time.
The shelter has also been the beneficiary of a $400 fund-raiser by the Franklin Somerset Federal Credit Union, Lovell said. It will also receive $125 from a Livermore group that raised money through a plant auction and from children collecting donations.
Additionally, the shelter is accepting donations of goods, except clothing, for a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at the shelter on Route 43 in Farmington.
