On May 13, I wrote a letter to Gov. Baldacci in regard to a state rule about nursing homes and asking for some help and directions to have this rule changed.

I also sent copies of this letter to some state legislators and senators along with our U.S. senators from Maine, hoping they could also help with this problem.

I won’t go into the details of this problem. My reason for writing is because I received an answer from Sen. Snowe’s assistant that they would not help me because they only deal with problems with an agency of the federal government and not state. They couldn’t ask about this problem? They couldn’t ask it to be investigated? They are elected by the voters in Maine, and I am not a happy camper with this answer.

On the other hand, Sen. Susan Collins response was very positive. She has taken the liberty of writing to Gov. Baldacci on my behalf to review this matter and provide any assistance available with regard to my request and assured me that she will contact me as soon as she receives a response. This was what I was asking for – help.

Just to ask our elected officials to look into this matter and take this seriously and find out what could be done to correct this problem. Thank you Sen. Susan Collins. I only hope that Sen. Snowe never has to place any of her loved ones in a nursing home.
