Now that Lisbon and Durham voters have approved a joint effort to study the possibility of the two towns forming a community school district, the School Committee is in the process of creating an advisory panel to assist with the effort.

The School Committee plans to include people from outside the School Department and has asked that a member of the Board of Selectmen join the panel. The group will negotiate with Durham about the name of a new school and the cost-sharing method for the district. Selectmen are expected to make an appointment at their upcoming meeting.

Durham: Circus will be coming to town

Walker Brothers Circus will be at Durham Eureka Community Center field on Saturday, June 19, with two shows, 3 and 5:30 p.m. Ten percent of ticket sales after expenses will go toward the cost is installing new vinyl siding on the Eureka Community Center building. In return, selectmen agreed to provide a handicapped toilet, water, manure trailer and dumpster. No tickets will be sold in advance, however, free passes for children are available at the town office.

Durham: Ambulance request OK’d

Fire Chief Bill St. Michel reports that Southern Maine EMS has approved the application by Durham Fire and Rescue to become a transporting ambulance service. The application will now be submitted to the state. Plans call for Freeport to do the billing for the ambulance at a rate of $18 per response. Transporting of patients is expected to begin in mid-July, St. Michel said.

Durham: Junkyard licenses renewed by board

Selectmen granted junkyard license renewals for Jewett’s Auto Parts; Kenneth Carll, who has erected fencing and will be adding more; and Alvin Dennison. Tabled were applications from Pete’s Junkyard; Laurence Emerson’s; and Troy and Lisa Peterson’s.
