CANTON – Urbain J. “Ben” Arsenault, 85, of Pine Street in Rumford died Sunday, June 13, at Victorian Villa in Canton.

He was born a son of Jos. E. and Rosane M. (Comeau) Arsenault. He graduated from St. John’s School in 1933 and Stephens High School in 1937. He attended Colburn Academy, where he was High Jump State Champion for over 20 years. He married Georgiana Giasson in 1940.

Ben was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Infantry over in France and Germany in the Forward Advance Group.

He was employed for over 40 years with Oxford Paper Co. and also was an Insurance Agent at “Waldo Insurance Agency,” established by his father Jos. E. Arsenault. For the past six years, he taught violin lessons.

He was a communicant of St. Athanasius St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a member of VFW Robert Shand Post # 1641, the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #1248 and the Les Paresseux Snow Shoe Club.

He enjoyed bowling, horse shoe pitching, hunting, fishing and playing music at area events.

He is survived by two sons, Benny U. Arsenault and wife, Shirley of Rumford and Anthony J. Arsenault and wife, Kathleen of Shelburne, N.H.; four daughters, Marie Anne Hanson and husband, “Tim” of Dixfield, Georgianna M. Arsenault of South Portland, Therese M.H. Arsenault of Rumford and Margaret A.M. Arsenault of Andover; sister, Alma M. Howard of Rumford; eight grandchildren, David, John, Amy, Richard, John, Theresa, Earl Richard and Theresa and two great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Hailee.

He was predeceased by his wife, Georgianna H. Giasson in 1979 and brother, Aurele Arsenault in 1980.
