GREENE – Robert E. Bernard of 111 Merrill Hill Road, Greene, died Monday evening, June 14, at his residence following a short battle with cancer surrounded by his children.

He was born in Lewiston, June 6, 1925, the son of Theodore and Marie Roy Bernard. He was educated in Greene schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947. He served in the Army Air Corps at the European Theater during World War II.

He later married Yolande I. Veilleux on June 25, 1955. She died Jan. 21, 1998. He made his living self-employed as a carpenter for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 22 and St. Francis Church in Greene. He loved to play cards, in particular cribbage, fishing, and working around his home.

He is survived by daughters, Denise Kaufman of Greene, and Louise Tammaro and her husband John of Falmouth; a son, Roland Bernard and his fiancee Tina Terenzoni both of Greene; grandchildren, Megan Tammaro of Falmouth and Sarah Bernard of Greene.

He was predeceased in 1968, by a sister, Madeleine Dostie.
