TOPSHAM – The second annual All Maine Barbershop Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19, in the Orion Performing Center.

The concert will feature presentations by combined barbershop choruses from Maine and guest quartets. In its inaugural year 2003, six choruses from across Maine met for a day of singing, music-related classes, camaraderie and an evening concert featuring 90 of Maine’s barbershoppers.

Participating Maine choruses this year will be the Downeasters of Portland, Hillsmen of Norway-South Paris, Kennebec Chordsmen of Waterville, Nor’Easters of Brunswick, Mainely Music Chorus of Bangor and the Windjammer Chorus of Camden. These choruses are part of the Northeastern District barbershop world, which, in turn, is part of international Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.

Guest conductor will be Kirk Young, former director of the Narragansett Bay Chorus of Providence, R.I.; the Tampa Bay Chorus in Florida; and the bass singer for the quartet Management. Paul Arnone, current Northeastern District representative to the international society’s Board of Directors, will be the master of ceremonies.

The show also will features two guest quartets that are noted for their entertainment and performance styles: Road Show from Providence, which is the Northeastern District representative to the 2004 international convention in Louisville, Ky., and the quartet Celebrate from the Royal River Chorus in Yarmouth, which is the 2004 Sweet Adelines’ Region I quartet champion.

A portion of the proceeds will go to area charitable organizations.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. They can be purchased at Bull Moose Music stores; Macbeans Music, Brunswick; Brunswick Bookland at Cooks Corner; and at the door. FMI: call Ted Tracy at 882-9795 or Walt Dowling at 934-5857 or go online to
