NEW SHARON – A New Sharon man is in stable condition at a Lewiston hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car Sunday night.

A North Anson man came forward Monday and told police he was the driver of the car that struck Edward Ferreira, 48, on Industry Road, Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Steve Charles said.

It wasn’t known if Ferreira was out walking or jogging when he was struck by the vehicle, which was heading north toward Industry, Charles said. Ferreira was hit by the corner of the front passenger side of the car, he said.

The report of the accident came at 7:05 p.m., he said.

Ferreira was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, then was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Charles said.

Police talked with Paul Hemond, 25, of North Anson, and he acknowledged that he was the driver, Charles said.

He allowed the four-door 1991 Buick Century to be impounded for possible review, Charles said.

The case is being reviewed by the district attorney’s office for possible charges, Charles said.
