BETHEL – From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 3, Bethel Common will have more than 50 artists and fine crafts people showing and selling their wares. There will be live entertainment on Bethel’s gazebo between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., provided by Women of Note, a group of harmonious women from Yarmouth, and Rob Robbins, the professional jazz pianist from the Bethel Inn & Country Club. Bethel restaurants will offer a variety of food. The children’s area will feature stilt walking and face painting. Art will be organized by the Mahoosuc Kids’ Program of Bethel, and there will be George York’s giant-sized inflatable sculpture. Attendees who intend to listen to the music are advised to bring lawn chairs. Lucky Duck race

RUMFORD – The Lucky Duck race will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4, during the Moontide Water Festival in Rumford. The duck crossing the finish line first will win $1,000, the second duck will win $200 and the third duck will will $100. People may purchase a duck at any one of the following locations: Port to Port, All That Jazz, Erik Designs, Mexico Pet Shop, Mexico Town Office, Rumford Falls Times, Sun Journal, River Valley Chiropractic, Community Energy, Davis Florist, Red Hill Foods, Log Cabin, Hannaford, Kirn, Everett & Cameron, State Farm, the information center, the Chamber of Commerce office, and every register at Wal-Mart. Members of the Chamber of Commerce who would like to help sell the lucky ducks may call 364-3241.

Route 108 construction

PERU – Beginning Wednesday, July 7, and continuing through Wednesday, Sept. 15, Route 108 in Peru will have one lane closed for installation of a culvert at Worthley Brook. Traffic lights have been installed on both sides of Worthley Brook and will begin operating on July 7.

Western Mountain Women

JAY – The Western Mountain Women’s Connection and Western Mountain Women’s After 5 Club will be combining their meetings for a special dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay. A networking time for business women will start at 6 p.m. All women of the area are invited to attend. The special feature will be a patriotic salute to those serving in the armed forces, veterans, and their families. Cynthia Libby of Dixfield sing patriotic music. Guest speaker Lovedy Alexander of Limerick will give a talk titled “Overcoming Self-Doubt.”

Reservations are required and may be made by calling Jane at 645-2282, Laurie at 369-0068, Ada at 778-4217, or Erica at 562-7259. Those unable to keep a reservation are asked to cancel so someone else may attend. The cost for the dinner is $11. All area women are invited to attend.
