Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Caring

I am writing to express the deep gratitude that my wife, Theresa, and I have for the wonderful example of caring on the part of the United Way representatives we have experienced. I refer to the Day of Caring whereby local volunteers help senior citizens get chores done that would be difficult for the seniors to do. In our case, it was the raking and bagging of leaves in our back yard. Forty-three bags of leaves to be exact. I cannot find the words to properly thank the local volunteers for the wonderful job they did. They not only did that particular job but seemed willing, even anxious to do even more for us.

Again, our sincere thanks to those people and the local officials of the Oxford County United Way for setting up this session and furnishing the workers.

Congratulations also to the Oxford County United Way for sponsoring this wonderful neighborly and helpful project.

Impressed

My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 138th Bates College Commencement on Memorial Day. I just want to say how impressed we were with every aspect of this great occasion. Everyone who was involved acted very professionally, courteously and helpfully. The staff in charge of the food deserves a great big round of applause, as the food was excellent, and they were very efficient in keeping the tables supplied.

Kudos to everyone involved in this impressive ceremony, and we hope to be able to attend another commencement in the future.

Angels

On May 18 in the morning, I got stuck on Canal Street in front of United Kingfield Bank on my way to Midas for a muffler. I went in the bank. These kind people helped me in starting my car; then this nice young lady drove me to Midas. I didn’t know there were angels on Canal Street.

Thank you so much.

Food drive

I would like to thank the citizens of Auburn who generously contributed to this year’s National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.

A total of 5,462 pounds of much needed food was collected and donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Each year in May, letter carriers collect food donations left by the public at their mail receptacles. The U.S. Postal Service also participates by allowing the use of the postal facility and equipment for the collection, transportation and weighing of the donated food.

Again, thank you to the carriers, their family and friends who also helped, the Postal Service, and especially the public for their participation in this worthwhile event.
