MILWAUKEE — Right-hander Mark Rogers, the Milwaukee Brewers’ first-round pick in this month’s draft, spent Tuesday getting acquainted with team officials and visiting Miller Park.
“It’s definitely a little overwhelming,” he told reporters at a news conference before the Brewers played the Colorado Rockies. “But it’s been a lot of fun. I just want to enjoy it.”
His parents, Craig and Stephanie, and his younger brother, Scott, were with him as he visited Milwaukee before joining the Brewers’ club in the Arizona Rookie League.
He seemed impressed with the retractable-roof Miller Park.
“It’s a lot better than anything we have in Maine, I can tell you that,” he said.
Rogers was one of the first early-round draft choices to sign a contract, and he received a $2.2 million signing bonus.
“I didn’t want to wait around,” he said. “They gave me a great offer. Baseball isn’t about money. It’s about putting on the uniform and playing.”
