FARMINGTON – Selectmen unanimously approved a motion to repair a building deemed unsafe on Thomas McClellan Road on Tuesday.

The building was damaged in a fire several years ago and could provide a haven for wild animals or wayward youth, according to Town Manager Richard Davis.

The building’s owner, Virginia Rosburg of Mount Vernon, was notified in a letter from Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser dated June 16, that “the town is moving ahead to secure the property,” and she would be billed for the town’s expenditures.

And it warned, “If you do not reimburse the town for its expenses by paying this bill, a lien will be placed and you will subsequently lose the property.”

Costs are estimated to be $10,000 for either demolition and disposal or for limited exterior renovation to secure it.

Selectmen agreed that retaining the building would be preferable to demolishing it. They unanimously approved spending up to $10,000 for the repairs.
