I am disturbed by the legalization of same sex marriages in Massachusetts, not because I am mean, homophobic or want to deny anyone their rights, but because homosexual behavior is unhealthy and our society should not be advocating an unhealthy lifestyle.

Homosexual marriage is unhealthy for the homosexual. Practicing homosexuals are much more likely to contract many diseases, to suffer from emotional hurts and to commit suicide. Homosexuals have a much lower life expectancy.

Homosexual marriage is unhealthy for children. Research, experience and common sense all show that children do best physically, emotionally, educationally and socially in stable homes under the care of their mother and father. The unique roles of mothers and fathers cannot be duplicated by two people of the same sex.

Homosexual marriage is unhealthy for marriage. If marriage means anything, then marriage means nothing. In countries where same sex marriages are legal, few people bother to marry at all and most children are born out of wedlock. This lack of commitment deprives children of the stability they need.

Homosexual marriage is unhealthy for society. Traditional marriage teaches people to be responsible, committed, to put other people’s needs first and to work hard to support their families.

Homosexual marriage is detrimental to democracy when it is brought about by unelected judges and our representatives lack the courage to exercise their constitutional responsibility to rein the judges in.

If we do not learn the difference between liberty and license, the resulting anarchy will end in tyranny.
