LIVERMORE FALLS – Students in SAD 36 will be served by a new food program this fall. The Board of Directors approved a three-year contract with School Food Systems and Services of Maine on Thursday.

Under the new program, all present employees may continue their jobs, if they wish, according to Superintendent Terry Despres. They will undergo a training program by the company.

Despres sees the new program’s goals as quality of service, ability to provide special meals, such as banquets, and producing more meals per work hour.

“They put out meals that meet federal guidelines, meals that kids want to eat, ” he said. “The portions are age appropriate and every menu lists the nutritional content.”

“This will allow us to get out of a service we really don’t know,” Despres said.

The goal is to help the district get out of its $150,000 deficit, a situation the auditor has been pressing the district to correct.

Weaknesses he found in the present system, besides the deficit, included consistency in the amount of food available to be served, and control of the collection of money.

The three-year management contract will cost the district $24,500, $25,600 and $26,800 as compared to more than $30,000 a year now.

In other business before the Board of Directors, the district named Janet Ventrella of Fayette and Angela Lake of Livermore as fifth-grade teachers at Livermore Elementary.

Summer school teachers at the middle school will be Chance Carlson, social studies; Michelle Moffett, language arts; Dan Labonte, mathematics; and Meagan Sinclair, science and eighth grade language arts.

Team leaders at the middle school will be Deb Finley, eighth grade; Denise Acritelli, seventh grade; Jen Easter, sixth grade; and Laureen Olsen and Troy Eastman, special education.

Serving on the district’s Student Support Team will be Jan Eastman, Eric Jewett, Vickie Thayer-Adams, John DiSotto and Pam Hamilton.

Co-curricular/extracurricular positions at the high school include: Carol Mitchell, fall and winter cheering coach; Brian Dube, assistant football coach; Julia Parker, field hockey; Cathi Howell, junior varsity field hockey; Frank Donald, girls basketball; John Trask, girls junior varsity basketball; Ross Hamblin, boys basketball; Tim Madden, boys junior varsity basketball; and Jill Dunton and Jeff Marceau, skiing co-coaches.

At the middle school, Brad Bishop will serve as intramural supervisor. Chance Carlson, girls basketball coach; Greg Keene, boys basketball; Harriet Chassie, yearbook; and Rick Hoddinott, student council.

Despres said the teaching staff is nearly complete.
