RANGELEY – The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum will hold its annual fund-raising auction at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the museum building on Route 16, one mile east of Rangeley.

Auctioneer Stephen Richard will once again preside over the event. Because attendance at last year’s event was so large, the museum will set up a tent this year. All are welcome to view the items beginning at 9 a.m.

The museum will offer gift certificates, golf passes, ski passes, restaurant and motel certificates, savings bonds, and many other goods donated by town businesses.

Roger and Diane Haines have donated an L.L. Bean toboggan and a bow and arrow set. Another supporter has provided several wall hangings, one with an American Indian design, and other home furnishings. Out-of-town businesses such as The Balsams of Dixfield Notch, N.H., have also sent donations.

Handmade crafts made by local and out-of-town artisans, specialties of the auction, will once again be offered. Rodney Richard, the “Mad Whittler,” promises a chain-saw-carved bear, and his son Rodney Richard Jr., will also donate a carving. A handmade Navajo turquoise and jade necklace from Utah will also be offered.

The kitchens of Rangeley cooks – such as Carol Haley, Beverly Hill, Lucille Richard and Audrey Stevens – will be humming, as they and other talented chefs prepare such delights as apple, raspberry and strawberry-rhubarb pies, as well as doughnuts and other home-baked goods.

People may still donate to this year’s auction by calling Lucille Richard at 864-5595; volunteers will pick up items.
