JAY – A 7-year-old boy was bitten by a dog Sunday while playing hide-and-seek outside at Jay Hill Apartments.

The boy, who was bitten on the right side of his torso, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where he was treated and released, said Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr.

The dog was chained up at an apartment at the 446 Main St. complex, he said.

The German shepherd was startled by the children playing in the area, White said. The dog was up-to-date on its shots, he added.

Jay animal control officer Larry Wright said he would be informing the dog’s owner that the dog will need to be quarantined for 10 days.

The incident is still under investigation, White said.
