Rumford
• June 24, 11:30 a.m.: A Waldo Street resident reported the burglary and thefts of a toy Uzi pellet gun and knife. The break-in and thefts are believed to have happened between June 22 and the 24. Police have suspects.
• June 23, 7:04 a.m.: A Waldo Street resident reported that someone slashed four tires on her car sometime overnight, doing an estimated $320 in damage.
• June 23: Armed with a search warrant, police entered a Kerr Street resident’s home after receiving information on June 19 that he was reportedly cultivating marijuana there, said Sgt. George Cayer.
Execution of the search warrant, which was obtained with assistance from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, led to the recovery and seizure of eight marijuana plants. Resident Aaron Gallant, 29, was summoned for Class D cultivation of marijuana. He is to be arraigned on Aug. 3 in Rumford District Court.
• June 20: Four Penobscot Street residents reported that someone had scratched each of their vehicles with keys, doing a estimated total of $3,900 in damage.
• June 18, 8:05 a.m.: An employee of the What Not Shop on Waldo Street reported that someone broke into the store between 9:30 a.m. June 17 and 8:05 a.m. June 18. There was no damage and nothing appeared to have been taken.
• June 18, 3:30 a.m.: A Rumford resident reported that someone had broken a message board outside of her apartment. Police have suspects in the criminal mischief case.
• June 18: Someone damaged a tent over picnic tables at the Hosmer Field athletic complex. Also damaged were poles holding up the tent and a picnic table, and a window to a storage shed was smashed out.
• June 18, 4:45 a.m.: Police responding to a car-deer collision located the dead deer but not the vehicle.
• June 15, 4 p.m.: After receiving a report from an off-duty Bethel officer that four motorcyclists had passed him at a high rate of speed on Route 2, Rumford officer Michael Halacy set up a speed trap at Rowe-Rumford. Halacy reported clocking the bikers at 91 mph in a 55 mph zone. He stopped them in the pullout atop Falls Hill.
Summoned for criminal speeding were: William A. McKenney, 39, of Manlius, N.Y.; Jeremy Meloling, 30, of Clay, N.Y.; Erick Overbaugh, 29, of Manlius, N.Y.; and Robert Narduzzo, 46, of Syracuse, N.Y.
• June 14: A 2000 Dodge sedan driven by Omer Breton, 88, of Rumford, jumped a sidewalk on Exchange Street, striking the Elks Lodge building, then careened through the intersection with River Street, hitting two parked vehicles, a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Ralph Partridge, 62, of Mexico, and a 1999 Honda Accord owned by Jessica Porter, 26, of Peru.
Halacy reported that Breton, while backing into a parking space on Exchange Street, pressed the gas pedal by mistake and struck the building. Then, with the accelerator still pressed, shifted into drive and the truck spun its wheels approximately 40 feet through the intersection, striking the two parked vehicles.
Damage to Breton’s car was estimated at $4,500; to Partridge’s truck, $800; and to Porter’s car, $4,500.
Halacy noted that he mailed a copy of the accident report to the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles, asking them to review Breton’s ability to operate a motor vehicle.
