LEWISTON – Juyoung Shim of Auburn, formerly of Korea, recently participated in the third annual Mount David Summit, a campus-wide exposition of student academic work at Bates College. Sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Faculty, the summit is designed to celebrate intellectual life at Bates.

More than 150 students gave short talks and readings, screened videos, exhibited artwork and presented posters in disciplines ranging from anthropology to women’s and gender studies.

Shim presented two posters: “Effects of Herbal Medicine on Periodontal Disease” and “The Mutagenic Effects of Benzopyrene and UV Light on the pUC18 Plasmid Amp Vector.”

Shim, a junior biology major, was a 2002 Dana Scholar. A 2001 graduate of Shinmyung Girls’ High, Korea, she is the wife of Changsu Lee and mother of Hana Lee.
