PORTLAND (AP) – Brett Roneberg had a bases-clearing triple and later sprinted to catch the game-ending fly ball as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Akron Aeros 6-5 Friday night.
Ben Francisco launched the ball toward the right field corner with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, but Roneberg’s dramatic catch ended the late rally by Akron (35-46).
It was the third consecutive win for Portland (38-43) during a homestand that ends on Independence Day.
Josh Stevens pitched into the eighth inning for Portland, allowing five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Ryan Larson pitched his way out of a jam to get his second save of the season.
