TURNER – Andrew Stacy and Chris Jennings fired shutouts Saturday to lead unbeaten Bessey Motors to a doubleheader sweep of Andy Valley.
Stacy tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14 hitters during a 5-0 victory in the opener. Jennings followed with a five-hit shutout in a 3-0 triumph.
Brandon Elie and Mike Chamard were the only Andy Valley players to get hits off of Stacy.
Joe Baker and Calvin Decato each had doubles for Bessey, while Stacy helped himself with a pair of hits.
Jennings and Scott Witherell matched each other in the nightcap before the Andy Valley pitcher tired in the fifth inning. Two of the three hits he allowed came in that inning when Bessey scored all three of its runs. Decato led the way with a two-run single with the bases loaded.
Justin Dodge had a pair of hits for Andy Valley.
Gayton Post sweeps doubleheader
LEWISTON – Gayton Post enjoyed an early start to the Fourth with some late-inning fireworks for comeback wins in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader with Poland.
Trailing 8-3 in the first game, Gayton rallied for five runs in the sixth and then one in the seventh to win 9-8. Chad Kordalski had a key two-run single in the sixth, while Ryan Turgeon (3-for-4, 3 RBIs) drove in John Emerson with the game-winning single in the seventh.
Alex Smith led Poland by going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Eric Piper went 2-for-4 with a home run. Nick Langlais picked up the win in relief.
In Game Two, Gayton looked like it might squander a strong pitching performance from Dustin Longchamps (seven innings, two earned runs, four Ks) before overcoming a 3-2 deficit in the seventh. Bases loaded walks to Luke Potter and Nate Gruz gave Gayton the 4-3 win.
Potter paced Gayton (4-1) by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Mike Carpenter had two hits and and RBI to lead Poland (1-4)
