NEW VINEYARD – Lowell Road residents’ complaints about the state of the road in New Vineyard seem to have been finally put to rest.

At their meeting Tuesday, Franklin County Commissioners heard an update on the town’s response to the Lowell family’s complaints that the road had not been properly maintained.

In April, the commissioners had given the town and the complainants 60 days to work out a solution to snow removal problems on the road. Cecile Lowell reported that the family was prepared to sign a document at the next selectmen’s meeting July 12.

The road, off Route 27, has been widened, and a turnaround for a plow truck has been added at the end.

The Lowells showed commissioners photos of the improved road and said they were pleased with the improvement. They said parts of the road had recently washed away in a downpour, but the hole could be easily filled.

Another issue was snow falling off the roof of a neighboring trailer, blocking the road in previous winters. The Lowells said that the town and the trailer’s owner, Ray Buckminster, have also come to an agreement. Under the agreement, any time snow from the roof blocks the road, the town will clean it up and bill Buckminster for the labor.

Commissioner Fred Hardy said he has seen the improvements and feels that the construction has been adequate.

“I’m satisfied,” he said.

The Lowells and the commissioners agreed that they will wait to see how snow removal goes. Commissioners did, however, advise the Lowells to sign the agreement next week.
