RANGELEY – Two teens set off two stink bombs in the Rangeley IGA Sunday. An 18-year-old from Portland and a 16-year-old from Windham said they thought it would be funny to set the pungent bombs off in the store during the holiday weekend.

Rangeley Police Officer John Cross detained the two, who were staying at a residence on the Bemis Track, according to Chief Phil Weymouth. The teens said they intended it to be a harmless prank and offered to clean up the mess, though there was nothing to clean.

In a written statement, the juvenile offender apologized to all who were affected by the stink.

“I wish to give my heartfelt apology to Bob, the owner, and all the other associates who were working on July 4 for my act of stupidity,” he said in part.

“I have learned from my foolishness.”

IGA store owner Bob Wentworth did not press charges against the vandals. He was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
