WILTON – Planners said Thursday they think plans for improvements to several Main Street businesses comply with town ordinances and the comprehensive plan.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen said a $100,000 economic development grant will pay for the work. A requirement of the financing, he said, is that planners review and approve the plan.

Nielsen sent invitations to 21 businesses to participate and received seven responses.

The work will include replacing doors, windows and sills, caulking, painting, shingles and siding. He said that if there is not enough money to complete the work, the scope of the projects will need to be reduced or the building owners will have to cover the remaining costs.

Nielsen said the repairs are expected to begin next month.

In other business, planners approved an operating permit for Firehouse Video on condition that new owner James Lecrau makes sure parking is allowed only on the business property.

They told Sam Kittridge he did not need a permit to set an 8-by-12-foot storage shed on skidders on a corner lot since it will be a movable structure.

Planners granted a permit for Michele Fitch to operate an ice cream business and coffee shop at 317-B Main St. They granted a permit to Richard Breau to operate the former Steve’s Market in Dryden under the new name Rick’s Market. They approved a separate permit for a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise in the store.

Planners tabled a proposal by Dennis Taylor of Taylor Made Homes to build a 20-by-100-foot storage building within the setback limit of delineated wetlands. Planners said Taylor can begin clearing the land, but the board must receive a specific site plan, and code enforcement officer Katherine Shoaps must confirm required setbacks before deciding whether they will allow the construction.
