OXFORD – Farmers in Oxford County face a July 15 deadline to file crop reports with the Farm Service Agency office here. Farmers filing a report after July 15 are subject to late filing fees.
The reports list the type of crops grown, where they’re grown and the number of acres planted.
Farmers and landowners who participate in the agency’s commodity programs, such as the Direct and Counter-Cyclical and the 10-year Conservation Reserve programs, are required to certify their crop acres. Acreages are also used to calculate financial assistance through various agriculture-related disaster programs.
Growers who don’t participate in agency’s programs are still encouraged to certify their acres with the office. The acreage report would maintain an official history of crop production for the land and may help establish eligibility if they want to take part in the future, according to the agency.
More information about crop reporting may be obtained by calling the agency at 743-5789.
