SALEM – Town residents are gearing up for their annual Founders Day, to be held Saturday, July 10. Plans include a parade, contests and activities for youngsters.
The parade through the center of town on Route 142 will kick off the day at 9 a.m., and will be followed by an ATV poker run and then an egg run. Last year’s favorite games will be offered again in the field by the Salem General Store; these include a fry pan throw, an egg toss, a hay bale toss, a sack race and a three-legged race.
A golfing hole-in-one event has been added this year, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A pie-eating contest will be held at 11:30 a.m.
There will also be balloons, a bean bag toss and a fish pond for the younger kids. A dunk tank will be in operation during the morning events.
A craft and quilt show will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
An auction will start at 1 p.m. and a bean-hole bean supper with hot dogs, homemade salads, bread and desserts will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Community House. The supper will be followed by a country bluegrass show by A&E Hill Country Music at the fire station.
Donations are still being accepted for the auction; donors can arrange to have items picked up. More information about the auction or the other events may be obtained by calling Chrystal at 678-2026 or April at 678-2874. Proceeds will go to the Salem Fire Department Auxiliary and the Salem Pine Tree Club.
