BYRON – At least one person was killed and several others injured in a car accident about 8 p.m. Saturday night one mile south of Coos Canyon on State Route 17.

Emergency crews from the Maine State Police, Franklin County, Mexico and Oxford County all responded, and LifeFlight helicopters from Lewiston and Bangor each responded to carry patients.

The Maine state trooper in charge of the investigation remained on the scene until after 10 p.m. and could not be reached for comment Saturday night

Some of the injured were reportedly taken by ambulance to Rumford Community Hospital, although that could not be confirmed. A receptionist at Rumford Community Hospital said the night nursing supervisor was too busy to talk Saturday night.
