FARMINGTON – Farmington selectmen will discuss proposed amendments to ordinances and several other issues at their meeting Tuesday night.

The board will hold public hearings on amendments to three ordinances. The proposed sign and zoning ordinance amendments are intended to maintain Farmington’s historic look by putting constraints on business signs and storefronts.

An amendment to the wireless telecommunications siting ordinance will also be open to public comment. Selectmen are considering an amendment to allow alternative sites for cellular towers, inside church steeples or in clock towers. According to Town Manager Richard Davis, no cellular tower sites are now being considered, but they would provide tax dollars and high-speed Internet access to the area and could lead to business development.

Selectmen will also consider bids for the purchase of a used unmarked detective’s car for the Police Department. They have budgeted up to $12,000 for it.

Davis said he expects state Rep. Janet Mills to comment on a proposed resolution to use all new revenues generated from state funding for education for property tax relief.

The meeting is open to the public. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmington town office.
