LIVERMORE FALLS – The Downtown Revitalization Committee spent much of Tuesday’s meeting reviewing a proposed logo presented by Phil Poirier.

His design is one of many that the committee hopes to consider; others are invited to present their ideas as well. The group stressed that “nothing is a bad idea” and encouraged local residents to participate.

Selectman Ken Jacques has asked students and counselors in the summer recreation program to submit their visions also.

In other town business, Town Manager Alan Gove said Dick Scott of Kyes Insurance has completed a rough draft of a space inventory for the downtown area. The inventory, which is part of the revitalization planning, will be discussed at the next meeting, at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2.

Jacques will follow up on obtaining help to incorporate the revitalization committee, a necessary step so that it can apply for grants. The committee decided to work with Community Education Partners, another organization being formed, but to incorporate separately rather than under that group’s umbrella.

Reports on recent downtown activities included the farmers’ market held June 26. A few vendors showed up on that rainy day and made some sales. Farmers were reportedly pleased with the event and with the 30 to 40 people who braved the elements to attend. The next market is set for July 31.

Several people in attendance commented positively on the parade and fireworks display on July 3. They noted that some vendors set up unexpectedly that day, and vendors and customers left trash. Next year they will be advised to provide trash barrels.

Fund-raising for the town clock tower restoration has begun, including the sale of T-shirts.

Other downtown activities include the proposed remodeling of the former Falls Lounge block and the clearing of the corner of Park, Pleasant and Depot streets by Ware-Butler for a warehouse.

Gove said he is putting the minutes of selectmen’s meetings on the Web and will add the Downtown Committee’s minutes also. The site is www.lfme.org.

He also is working on grants for the sewer project on Main Street and for the walking and biking path on Foundry Road.

Debi Davidson said the proposed regional Androscoggin River Conservation Committee will have its first meeting this month at a date to be announced.
