FARMINGTON FALLS – The Falls Fire Company’s 44th annual parade and field day will be Saturday, July 17. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and all entries are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for parade entries: $150 for first; $75 for second and $25 for third. There will also be prizes for bicycle and doll carriage entries. The theme is Life’s Celebrations. A barbecue will be held as well as a pie raffle and a prize raffle. Entertainment will include music by Silver Seasons, an afternoon baseball game and games for children.

Bible school

FARMINGTON – Son Games 2004, a Vacation Bible School of Champions, will start Monday, July 19, and run until July 23. It will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street. It will feature Bible stories, crafts, skits, games and music. It’s for youngsters from preschool age to sixth-graders.

Singer to perform

WELD – Singer-songwriter Jim Gallant will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, in the amphitheater at Mount Blue State Park. Gallant, who grew up in Mexico and now lives in New Gloucester, performs throughout New England and is a yearly guest at the park. Also a guitarist, he describes his fascination with that instrument on his Web site, www.jimgallant.com.

Dance for troops

JAY – A dance to support U.S. troops, Christmas in July, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 17, at the Amvets Hall. Tickets will only be available in advance. Tickets are available at the hall.

Hobart concert

WELD – Musician Bruce Hobart will entertain at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 17, in the Mount Blue State Park amphitheater. The Mechanic Falls man, who, as a performer, also calls himself a Hobohemian, plays acoustic bluegrass and folk music.

Singing hymns

MADRID – The annual summer hymn sing will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18 in the Reeds Mill Church. The little country church will be lighted with kerosene lamps, but people may want to bring flashlights also to aid in seeing the hymnals, organizers say. All interested people are welcome to attend.
