RUMFORD – Two people were transported to Rumford Hospital early Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle wreck on Route 2.
Leslie Knapp, 72, of Roxbury suffered a head injury when his 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck collided with the rear end of a 2002 Chrysler driven by Amelia DeSalle, 82, of Rumford Center, said Rumford officer Douglas Maifeld.
Rumford firefighters and Med-Care Ambulance paramedics removed a bloodied Knapp from his totaled truck, and DeSalle from her car, which sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.
Maifeld said DeSalle complained of pain to her chest from the safety belt she was wearing.
“They were both wearing seat belts, so it could have been a lot worse if they didn’t have them on,” he added.
Both were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Maifeld said the wreck occurred when DeSalle, who was traveling eastbound, tried to turn left onto Prospect Avenue near Teena’s Restaurant.
Route 2 lunch hour traffic was limited to one lane for about 45 minutes until responders cleared the travel lanes.
Adley’s towed Knapp’s truck. DeSalle’s Chrysler was driven to Teena’s and parked.
