RUMFORD – Blazing Star Lodge on Route 232 will hold a pig roast open pit at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17. Lake Day
WELD – The Webb Lake Association will hold its annual Lake Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Stowell’s Field, at the head of Webb Lake. Free admission and open to the public. There will be children’s games, volleyball tournament, children’s shirt painting, crafts, book sale and party boat rides. A pig roast will be held at noon. Fishing contest
WELD – Webb Lake Association annual fishing contest will be held Sunday, July 18, at Dummer’s Beach. Registration will be held from 7-8 a.m. Fish must be brought in by 5 p.m. There is a $1 fee. Prizes will be awarded for the three largest fish. For more information, phone Paula Smith at 585-2316.
Luncheon
PERU – The Families In Crisis Task Force will hold a community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, at the Rockemeka Grange, 92 Peru Center Road. The menu will include chicken and biscuits with gravy, stuffing, cranberry, vegetable and dessert. Donations will be accepted.
Lunch and Learn
RUMFORD – The River Valley Growth Council now located at the River Valley Technology Center, 60 Lowell St., has announced its second six-month series of the Business Lunch and Learn seminars. The seminars will continue to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The cost is $8 and includes lunch. The first seminar will be “Capitalizing Your Company with Other People’s Money (OPM)” on Wednesday, July 21. The presenter will be Meriby Sweet, who has 20 years of experience in technology ventures. She is presently the director for Maine Small Business and Technology Development Center at the Maine Technology Institute.
The other topics in this series will include: “Insurance Plans That are a Real Benefit,” “Writing a Winning Proposal for a MTI Development Award,” “Selling to the Government,” “Financing Start-up Businesses” and “Patent Searching and Protection.” If anyone would like a brochure, contact Beverly.
The Lunch and Learn Seminars are intended to provide information to businesses in an affordable way. In addition, the seminars are intended to facilitate networking among businesses in similar activities.
