FARMINGTON – Waldo R. Handrahan, 70, of New Portland, died early Tuesday morning, July 13, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born, April 16, 1934, in New Portland, a son of Albert and Alma (Durrell) Handrahan. He attended Central High School in New Portland. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army in 1956, serving in Korea. He was discharged in 1962.

On July 2, 1960, he married Muriel Agren in Kingfield.

Mr. Handrahan worked for many years in the woods and as a truck driver. He later worked at Dirigo Dowels in New Portland, retiring in 2003, after 34 years of service.

He loved family vacations, especially the trips to Prince Edward Island, the birthplace of his father. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and four-wheeling with his family. The true light of his life were his beloved granddaughters, Brittany and Kristina, who lovingly referred to him as, “Pa Pa.”

He is survived by his wife of 44 years; a daughter, Mary and her husband, Philip Robinson and their daughters, Brittany and Kristina, of New Portland; his mother, Alma Handrahan, of Madison; sisters, Roberta Atwood, of Bingham, Jackie Gordon and her husband, Edwin, of New Portland; a brother, Donald Handrahan and his wife, Lynette, of Freeman; a brother-in-law, Gustaf Agren and his wife, Vertie, of New Portland; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Albert Handrahan; brothers, Arlo and baby, Maynard; a sister, Joan Skillin.
