This concerns the letter to the editor from Rep. Thomas Shields published July 9. He states “only 14.4 million” people go longer than 14 months without health insurance (He fails to specify the “federally sponsored survey” sources.).

Only 14.4 million? As both physician and politician, it’s shameful that rather than taking the opportunity to address this issue compassionately and in human terms, thereby to provide some leadership on the issue, he instead resorts to the rhetoric of disaffected, partisan politics and blames the other guys.

This country is currently in dire need of solutions from our politicians, yet all we seem to get is more finger-pointing.
