On July 7 at the selectmen’s meeting, an attempt to remove a long-standing Planning Board member was made. Sue Ellis was “interviewed” to be reappointed to her own job on the Planning Board. She answered all questions precisely and to the point. The vote was two against (Wendy Sanborn and Chairman Glenn Peterson), one abstention (David Corcoran, because he is a friend?) and one for (Bud Jordan).

Bud nailed it on the head when he said there was a personal agenda happening, and he didn’t understand why. Sue could not be more qualified, having served more time on Poland boards than the two voting against her by 15 years.

The difference in qualifications between the two candidates is immense. Perhaps that is what the selectmen want. The other candidate, during his questioning, admitted he had never been to either a selectmen’s or a Planning Board meeting. His qualifications were to have read a bit of the Comprehensive Plan and to live in town. He was almost voted in. If officials want the Planning Board to reflect the selectmen’s attitude, with no opposition, they certainly are on the right track.

The Planning Board has two openings and two applicants. It’s a no-brainer to appoint Sue back to her rightful place. If the selectmen are really trying, they should find an equally qualified candidate for the other position.

I hope the town will support Sue at the selectmen’s meeting on July 20.
