DALLAS PLANTATION – A 24-year-old Massachusetts man flipped his ATV when he miscalculated a curve in Dallas Plantation Wednesday.
Joshua Shipley of Athol, Mass., was approaching the intersection of Reddington Road and Route 16 when he lost control of his ATV and skidded down an embankment.
“He failed to negotiate a curve,” said Deputy Michelle St. Clair, who responded to the scene from a truck accident in Chain of Ponds.
Shipley, who was wearing a helmet, said he was unfamiliar with the road and didn’t realize it ended so soon.
St. Clair said the road has a sweeping curve culminating with a stop sign at the intersection.
“He was probably going too fast,” she said.
No summonses were issued. Shipley sustained a gash to his left leg and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital for treatment.
