There seems to be a feeling in some segment of our citizenry that, for the moment, we are the only real super-power on the planet. And, therefore, it is our responsibility to reshape the world.
If there is any truth at all to that notion, perhaps we should begin to consider where we might find a good place to start.
It would be good to find something that doesn’t require killing people with “shock and awe” fireworks. Maybe we could do something really bold and adventurous; something that would set the world on its ear; something that would have the greedy and power-hungry quaking in their boots.
Maybe we could consider something like this:
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, guided by love, respect and understanding, with liberty and justice for all.”
Maybe that’s a little more like what a real superpower might do.
