In reply to the Laurel DeLuge letter, “Unhealthy,” (June 27), I would like to say, does gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes, hepatitis B, etc., ring a bell? Those are diseases that affect heterosexuals.

Suicide knows no boundaries. With a society that grants praises to the heterosexual community and condemns gays and lesbians on a daily basis, however, many young gays may think that suicide would end the pain inflicted on them by their “Christian,” loving neighbors. You would think that humanity has evolved.

To think that only a male-female couple can raise healthy, well-adjusted children is false. People should open their eyes and ears. See how many children are stuck in families who are into drugs, spouse abuse and incest. If traditional marriage teaches people to be responsible, putting other people’s needs first, how does society explain the above?

Society needs more un-elected judges, judges who are open to the rights of minorities. If we leave it to the heterosexuals, gays and lesbians will never be allowed to live to their fullest capacities. If the word “marriage” is a problem for a government-issued license, a new terminology would be accepted, such as “civil union contract,” thus granting equal, legal rights to all individuals applying for it.

Yes, we do live in an unhealthy society. Until we can correct the misconception that homosexuals are sick and perverted, we will all remain unhealthy.

The road to a healthier society is education.
