FRYEBURG – Oxford County Democrats met June 24 at the American Legion Hall to hear Corey Haskell of Portland, executive director of A Rising Tide, a nonprofit group founded by state Sen. Ethan Strimling of Portland, talk about that organization.
A Rising Tide sponsors free training in political activism and grassroots organizing aimed at young people from 18 to 35. Several weekend training sessions are planned for August. Anyone interested should stop in at the Norway Democratic office and pick up an application.
Roy Gedat of Norway, candidate for House District 95, and Karen Lipiatos of Lovell, who is a member of Americans Coming Together (ACT) spoke about their recent training at Camp Wellstone. Lipiatos announced upcoming ACT training in Norway and Conway, N.H.
Candidate updates were given by Marge Medd of Norway, running for the state Senate in District 13; Marlee Turner, House candidate in District 97; Timothy Carter, District 91; Rep. John Patrick, running for re-election in District 92; Gordon Fuller, House candidate in District 99; Margaret Reimer, House candidate in District 98; George Driscoll, county commissioner District 1; and Roy Gedat, House candidate in District 95.
Cathy Newell, Oxford County chairperson, reported for state Sen. Bruce Bryant, who is seeking re-election in District 14; Terry Hayes, House candidate in District 94; Linda Petrie, House candidate in District 93; and Fred Kennard, seeking re-election as county commissioner in District 2. Toni Seger reported for Price Hutchins of Lovell, candidate for register of probate.
India Haynes of Waterford and Rep. John Patrick of Rumford were re-elected as members of the Democratic State Committee, and Mike Broderick of Bethel was elected in the third slot.

The next meeting of the Oxford County Democrats will be on Thursday, July 22, in Mexico.
