DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers surpassed their 2003 wins total with 21/2 months left in the season, beating the New York Yankees 4-2 Sunday behind the pitching of Nate Robertson and the hitting of Carlos Pena.
Detroit, which split the four-game series against the defending AL champions, improved to 44-47. Last year, the Tigers set an AL record for losses by going 43-119. The Tigers won the season series from New York 4-3.
Mariners 7, Indians 5
SEATTLE – Randy Winn hit a tiebreaking, two-run double with two outs in the eighth inning to lead the Seattle Mariners over the Cleveland Indians 7-5 Sunday.
Dan Wilson singled off Matt Miller (2-1) with one out in the eighth. Pinch-runner Miguel Olivo advanced on a grounder, then Ichiro Suzuki was intentionally walked. Bob Howry relieved, and both runners advanced when Victor Martinez couldn’t handle Howry’s first pitch for a passed ball.
Devil Rays 7, Orioles 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Mark Hendrickson pitched a four-hitter for his second career complete game, Carl Crawford hit a two-run triple during a five-run sixth inning and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 Sunday.
Hendrickson (7-7) struck out six and walked one in Tampa Bay’s first complete game since Victor Zambrano beat Oakland 11-2 on Sept. 7, 2003. The former NBA player retired his first 12 batters before Javy Lopez opened the fifth with a ground-rule double to right.
Athletics 5, White Sox 3
OAKLAND, Calif. – Mark Mulder pitched three-hit ball into the ninth inning Sunday to become the first 13-game winner in the majors, and Bobby Crosby’s two-run homer sent the Oakland Athletics to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Mulder (13-2) won his 11th consecutive decision, outpitching Esteban Loaiza in a matchup of All-Stars. The left-hander struck out eight, walked two and hasn’t lost in 14 starts since April 28.
Brewers 4, Cubs 2
CHICAGO – Chris Capuano pitched six strong innings, Scott Podsednik had three hits and the Milwaukee Brewers took advantage of the Chicago Cubs’ bullpen in a 4-2 victory Sunday.
Kerry Wood allowed one run and four hits in six innings, but Milwaukee went ahead with two runs in the seventh off Francis Beltran (2-2) and Kent Mercker.
Cardinals 10, Reds 4
CINCINNATI – Mike Matheny drove in three runs and Jeff Suppan won his third straight start, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the Cincinnati Reds 10-4 Sunday for their 11th win in 13 games.
Edgar Renteria and former Red Reggie Sanders hit solo homers for St. Louis, 8-2 against the Reds this season after going 7-9 last year.
Dodgers 10, D-backs 3
PHOENIX – Cesar Izturis drove in a career-best four runs, Adrian Beltre hit his 23rd homer to match his high and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-3 Sunday to sweep a four-game series.

ATLANTA – Eli Marrero hit a grand slam in the first inning, Chipper Jones finished a double short of the cycle, and the Atlanta Braves routed the Montreal Expos 16-5 Sunday.
The Braves won their sixth straight series by taking three of four from Montreal. Jones drove in four runs and J.D. Drew extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games with two singles.
Rockies 10, Giants 9
DENVER – Jeromy Burnitz and Preston Wilson each homered off Matt Herges and Aaron Miles capped Colorado’s four-run ninth inning with an RBI single, helping the Rockies rally for a 10-9 victory Sunday over the San Francisco Giants.
Colorado turned the tables on the Giants after a disheartening 7-5 loss to the Giants on Thursday in which closer Shawn Chacon gave up four runs in the ninth inning.
Pirates 4, Marlins 2
PITTSBURGH – Pinch-hitter Bobby Hill came through with a go-ahead homer leading off the eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates won their 10th in a row at home, finishing a three-game sweep of the Florida Marlins with a 4-2 victory Sunday.
The home winning streak is Pittsburgh’s longest since a 24-game run at Three Rivers Stadium that lasted for six weeks late in the 1978 season.
Astros 5, Padres 3
HOUSTON – Roger Clemens won his first game in three weeks, a 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday that stopped the Astros’ four-game losing streak and gave Phil Garner his first win as Houston’s manager.
Clemens (11-3), rocked for six runs in the first inning during Tuesday’s All-Star game in Houston, had been 0-1 in three starts since beating Pittsburgh on June 24.
Mets 6, Phillies 1
NEW YORK – Al Leiter pitched six shutout innings, and Mike Cameron and Vance Wilson hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to lead the New York Mets to a 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Leiter (6-3) allowed four hits and struck out a season-high seven for his fifth win in six starts as the Mets salvaged a split of the four-game series.
