PARIS – The Paris Hill Historical Society will present a talk by Gary Freeman, owner of Mount Mica mine, and Van King, well-known historian of Maine mines, at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22.
Visitors will be able to view the mineral cutting and polishing machines, which belong to the society and which serve as a reminder of Mount Mica’s past and its close and early ties to Paris Hill.

Photography talk
SUMNER – Mark Silber, photographer, author and co-owner of Hedgehog Hill Farm, will give a lecture on “Photographing in the Gardens” at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Hedgehog Hill Farm.
Many will remember his photographs in the “Complete Book of Everlastings” and “Growing Vegetables from Seed to Harvest.” He is also a documentary photographer, having authored or co-authored half a dozen books with oral history and documentary photography.
The lecture is designed for people who are interested in improving their skills with digital or 35-mm cameras and who would like some understanding of interaction between perception and photography.
Hedgehog Hill Farm gardens are open to the public for strolls, painting and photographing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Free lectures are held rain or shine and no reservations are needed.

Cookout changed
PARIS – The West Paris Senior Citizens cookout has been changed from Tuesday, Aug. 3, to Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the 35 Church St. home of its president, Bertha DeHaas. It will be followed by a business meeting and program.
Vacation school
PARIS – The West Paris Daily Vacation Bible School will be held at the West Paris Baptist and Mission Congregational churches from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 2 to 6.
The program will be presented by members of both churches and the Child Evangelism Fellowship. Mary Standard is in charge of the program, assisted by members of both churches. The closing program will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the West Paris Baptist Church.
