TURNER – Clifton E. Jordan, 66, a lifelong resident of Turner, died Tuesday, July 20, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He fought a courageous battle with leukemia and never faltered in his faith.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Leeds, the son of Edwin and Dorothy Cook Jordan. He graduated in 1957 from Leavitt Institute, and was a member of the Army Reserves, Engineering Unit in Auburn.

On June 24, 1961, he married Nancy Hersey of Saxonville, Mass. He was a well-known resident of Turner where he had his own business and built many homes there and in the surrounding areas. He also worked as a contractor for Allied Construction Co. in Portland.

He contributed a great deal to his passion of firefighting. He was a member of the Turner Fire Department for 38 years and was still standing his post as Deputy Chief of the Village Fire Station. He was honored in 2004 for all his years of volunteering with “Volunteer of the Year.”

The Village Fire Station was dedicated and renamed the “Cliff Jordan Fire Station.” He drove in his last 4th of July parade this year with a big smile. Everyone that came in contact with “Cliff” knew him as a kind and giving man that contributed 110% at all times.

He loved to spend time with his family and was so proud of all of his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving and giving man that loved a good joke and enjoyed a good prank whether he was the receiver or the giver.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, and was so till the end, never giving up on them because that was his nature not to give up on anything. He shared his extensive knowledge of carpentry and firefighting with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and many more people he came in contact with. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife, of 43 years, of Turner; four daughters and their husbands, Kelly and George Krook, of Sabattus, Karen and Andy Jordan, of Westbrook, Kathy and David Golinas, of Florida, and Katrina and Darin Roy, of Turner; two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and George Varney, of Turner and Shirley and Carroll Stevens, of Oxford; two brothers and their wives, Ed, Jr. and Pat Jordan, of Turner and Gerald and Joan Jordan, of Woolwich; nine grandchildren, Fallon and Vanessa Jordan, Bradley, Ryan and Heather Krook, Clifton and Corri Cross, Evrit and Egan Roy; and many nieces and nephews.
