LIVERMORE FALLS – Joyce Drake received 112 of the 128 votes cast in Wednesday’s special election for selectman.

She will succeed Doreen Maheux, who resigned several weeks ago. Her term will run through June 2005.

Several write-in votes were cast, but they could not be counted, according to Town Clerk Kristal Flagg, as voters had failed to place a check beside the names.

A question put to voters, whether they would favor a moratorium on adult-only businesses, passed by a 85-42 vote.

Flagg was surprised by the number voting against the proposal and said she felt some had not understood the question, thinking that a “no” vote meant they did not want adult-only businesses.

Now that the vote has been taken, town officials may proceed with the development of an ordinance regulating adult-only businesses. It would then have to go to a town meeting vote.
