COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College student Heather Asquith, daughter of Kathi Asquith of Greene, has been selected as a performance intern this summer at Saint Michael’s Playhouse, an Equity professional theater owned and operated by Saint Michael’s College, a liberal arts residential Catholic college. This marks Asquith’s second season with the playhouse.
Asquith, a senior theater major, graduated from Leavitt Area High School in Turner in 2001. She is acting in the show, “She Stoops to Conquer” by Oliver Goldsmith, playing the roles of Miss Pimple and Sallie Baker. The play is a comic masterpiece of English theater from 18th century England. It runs from July 13 to 24.
Asquith said that there is a high level of professionalism at the playhouse. “The level of commitment that the professional actors have to their roles is much higher than I ever thought it would be,” she said.
The most valuable part of interning is “being able to become a more proficient and understanding person of the theater arts,” said Asquith.
Asquith said the major difference between Saint Michael’s Playhouse and other community or high school theaters that she has been involved with is “the level of commitment and dedication to look at all of the details no matter the cost.”
Asquith will also play the role of Georgette in the children’s show, “Michael and the Dragon,” an original play inspired by the legend of Mont-Saint-Michel in special honor of the Saint Michael’s College Centennial Celebration. It was written and will be directed by former producer of Saint Michael’s Playhouse, Donald A. Rathgeb, who is an emeritus professor of theater.
