G.I. Coffee House

FARMINGTON – The Farmington G.I. Coffee House will not be open this week on July 23, as the space is needed for another purpose. The next G.I. Coffee House will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Old South Church on Main Street. Music that evening will be performed by Ruth Hill with folk guitar and banjo.

Anglers’ service

NEW PORTLAND – The Second Annual Anglers’ Service, honoring a tradition going back in to the 1940s, will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 25, at the North New Portland Community Church. The Rev. Scott Planting will lead the service of music and readings.

Special guest speakers Gary Cobb of North New Portland and Pierce Pond Camps, and Greg Drummond of Highland Plantation and Claybrook Mountain Lodge, will offer personal glimpses of fishing in the upper Kennebec Valley of Maine. Austin and Elaine Marden will offer country gospel music.

All are welcome. The North New Portland Church is in the village of North New Portland, just off Route 16 on the Hancock Pond Road. More information may be obtained by calling 778-4705.

STRATTON – June Parsons and Carol Gray will be co-hostesses of the Dead River Area Historical Society’s event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Parsons will share her knowledge about Flagstaff with visitors at the museum, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Gray will relate her memories of growing up in the Stratton/Eustis area. Items sought for silent auction

RANGELEY – Friends of the Wilhelm Reich Museum are collecting items for a silent auction to be held at the Orgonon Festival and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. The silent auction will be held inside the building while participants sell their goods outside on the conference center’s lawn. There will also be a children’s table and other activities. Food will be on sale all day. People who wish to contribute auction items are asked to call 864-3443 or e-mail wreich@rangeley.org.

Coloring contest

FARMINGTON – Entry sheets for the annual Moonlight Madness coloring contest are now available at Farmington Thrift Store on Broadway. Cash prizes will be awarded in three age groups. Entries will be displayed and judged at the Thrift Store on July 30, Moonlight Madness Day. The contest is sponsored by the Farmington Downtown Business and Professional Association.
